Rainbow Covenant
It is our goal to be a Rainbow Covenant church. This is an intentional approach to funding missions. |
|
Missionary Support We have entered into a covenant with missionary Larry Kies in Zimbawe to send $5 per member for three years. Through the sale of Hy-Vee gift cards every Sunday, we are able to support our missionary. Five percent of the sale of each card goes toward missionary support.
The money collected from recycling the printer cartridges is used to purchase Personal Energy Transportation (PET) devices which are sent to Third World countries to help persons who are unable to use their legs. Food Pantry The Missions Committee collects food, paper products, and personal items for our local food pantry at the Community Action Center. The Stagedoor Sunday School class donates money monthly to the community milk fund.
We collect these soup labaels as well as labels from other Campbell's food items. The labels are sent to Bidwell Riverside in Des Moines to help purchase a van about every five years. Thanksgiving Ingathering We encourage groups to assemble kits for United Methodist Committee on Relief and to donate money for hunger projects and Personal Energy Transportation devices, to be given at the Ingathering in November.

Salvation Army Sunday Meals Groups from our church provide supper for people at the Salvation Army four times each year. We also ring bells the the Army on day in December to collect money for thier Christmas kettles.
For every $10 donated, an anti-mosquito net can cover up to four people in a bed. These nets are sent to Aftica where a person dies of malaria every 30 seconds.
CROP Walk Members of our church are encouraged to walk and sponsor walkers who collect money for Church World Service. This supports countries with self-help development, meets emergency needs, and helps address the root causes of poverty and hunger.
We assemble food baskets to be given to families referred to us by the Salvation Army as well as any families within our church family who may need some help at this time of year. YWCA Domestic Violence Shelter The Committee takes donated personal items to the shelter for use by the residents. Homeless Shelter The Committee distributes personal care products, office supplies, and food items.
